Dr. K.S. Nagesh, born on May 23, 1947, to Smt. K.S. Nagalakshmi and Shri K.R. Sitaramaih, has over 43 years of experience. He earned his BDS in 1969 and MDS in Oral Medicine and Radiology in 1975 from Bangalore University, winning the Venson’s Gold Medal for the highest overall BDS score.
Honored Dentist and Medical Leader
In 2019, he received the “Doctor of Science” Honoris Causa from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka, for his contributions to medical education, public health, and research. He was also awarded the Karnataka Rajyotsava Award in Medicine in 2005 and became a Fellow of the Indian Society for Dental Research in 2004.
Distinguished Health Leader and Advocate
Dr. Nagesh has served in numerous prestigious roles, including Chairman of the Ethics Committee for Human Subjects at NIMHANS, President of ACOMFR, and Regional Director of ICDMFR. An internationally recognized oral and community health expert, he has campaigned for health and human rights for two decades. He has held significant positions at Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Public Health, R.V. Dental College, and was named Indian Ambassador for ORPHEUS.
Leader in Rural Oral Health
As Principal of R.V. Dental College, he launched a support program through the Rashtreeya Sikshana Samithi Trust to promote oral health in rural and underprivileged areas, treating over 288,278 patients for free in 908 camps across multiple states. His tri-sector partnership in Tamil Nadu promoted oral health in schools, serving 20,000 children and earning praise from WHO’s chief of oral health.
Health Innovator and Author
Dr. Nagesh also spearheaded the Bangalore Healthy City Initiative, providing cardiology care to 6,000 sanitary workers and 16,000 KSRTC employees. He established the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Public Health and Centre for Disease Control with WHO support.
He has authored notable books on oral health, including contributions to “Oral Diseases in Tropics” by Oxford Publishers. Dr. Nagesh has championed the ‘Right to Health’ legislation and delivered numerous public lectures on All India Radio and various television channels.
